
Level 1 & Level 2 Mountain Bike Leadership Qualifications
These 2 day mountain bike leader/ instructor courses combine training & assessment.
Day 1 is theory, Day 2 is practical
Start at 10, finish at 5:30 approximately
These mountain bike leader / instructor qualifications were first introduced into the education sector. However, they are now widely used and recognised by independent mountain bike guides, mountain bike holiday companies, teachers, military personel, police service, youth leaders, scout leaders etc. It is the only mountain biking award to have benefited from a recognised qualification, from the NVQ Awarding Body (A.B.C.)
The Level 1 mountain bike leader / instructor qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of beginners in non-technical terrain (forest tracks, canal towpaths etc).
The Level 2 mountain bike leader / instructor qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of beginners in non technical terrain and intermediate riders in technical (rocky / demanding terrain).
Course content:
- Group management, communication and coaching skills.
- Navigation, route planning using both maps and compass with GPS and digital mapping.
- Risk assessment and management.
- Legal issues and recording systems.
- Access and conservation.
- Equipment requirements (Backpack).
- Personal riding skills.
- Basic and emergency repairs.
You will be assessed during the two days by means of practical, question/answers and a written exam.
Course level: 12 months off-road experience minimum
