Introduction to Brewing.

On this course you will take part in the process of turning grain, hops, water and yeast into something altogether more palatable under the watchful eye of our expert brewmaster. The Nano-Brewery is a custom made demonstration brewery in a small room that brews up to 9 gallons at a time. It is designed so that small groups can assemble and use it and learn about the ingredients, processes, and equipment involved in the ancient art of brewing. You will mill, mash, and sparge, learn the difference between liquor and wort, understand the importance of temperature and sanitation and really get to grips with each stage of the brewing process.

You will brew 4.5gals of ale ready for fermentation, which takes about a week. We will then send you your beer by courier in a 2 or 4 gal polypin or 1 gal mini keg. When you receive it, expect to let it stand for about a week, (max 3 weeks) and then it should be drunk within about 3 days after opening for a mini keg or 10-14 days for a polypin.

This course is intended for anyone with an interest in beer or brewing, whether you have tried home brewing or not. It will help you understand the brewing process and the science behind it and get hands on experience of producing a brew. Because the course involves making and sampling alcohol, all participants must be over 18 years of age. Quantities given are approximate. We provide you with refreshments throughout the course including tea/coffee/water and bacon or egg sandwiches.
